With a number of its wrestlers stuck overseas on a European tour and unable to travel due to flight restrictions from the erupting volcano in Iceland, WWE’s Monday Night RAW decided to smack down the competition.
SmackDown superstars came to the rescue, making up most of Monday’s show from East Rutherford, N.J. When all was said and done, the night’s main event turned into quite a show after all.
After coming out earlier in the evening and getting in Triple H’s face, CM Punk and the Straight Edge Society found themselves face-to-face later in the night with the 13-time world champion and partners Edge and San Diego’s own Rey Mysterio.
The six-man tag team match saw Triple H/Edge/Mysterio defeat Punk/Luke Gallows/Chris Jericho, with Punk getting two signature moves delivered on him.
Even though this event featured mostly SmackDown superstars, the interaction between them (Jericho seems to be on every wrestling show in the universe these days, lol) and Triple H worked well.
In the night’s other matches:
MacGruber (star of the new movie was one of the guest hosts for the evening & “Khaluber” aka The Great Khali) def. Vladimir Kozlov in a 2-on-1 Handicap Match;
Made up in MacGruber gear, the Punjabi giant came face-to-face with Kozlov, beating up the Moscow Mauler and causing him to head up the entrance ramp and lose by count-out.
The Undertaker def. World Heavyweight Champion Jack Swagger in a Non-Title Match (Swagger made an open challenge to anyone in the dressing room);
Intercontinental Champion Drew McIntyre def. Matt Hardy.
Considering that the show did not have the services of the likes of John Cena, Randy Orton, Miz-Show, etc., it was still an entertaining night leading up to this Sunday’s Extreme Rules PPV.
