Years ago when I lived up in Northern California (yes, I was a traitor for a while!) I was lucky enough to work with some amazingly talented professionals in the wedding industry. Bigger than their talent, were their hearts; they were some of the most generous and loving people I have ever met. One example of their compassion was when one of my associates found out about a woman who was dying of cancer but wanted to marry her sweetheart before she said goodbye to this world. Quickly my associate got a group of premiere wedding professionals together who created a wedding that was a true celebration of life and love. I think the wedding was not only a dream come true for the bride, but it was a treasured memory for the groom and all those who soon afterwards lost their loved one.
Acts of kindness like the scenario above, need to be multiplied in this world. I am so happy to report there is now a group that is going to make certain that wedding wishes do come true for those with a life-threatening illness. Wish Upon a Wedding is the love child of Liz Guthrie. Having worked in the wedding industry for more than two decades, Liz saw a real need for wedding assistance for people who had been wiped out financially by their health care bills. “Many couples have endured life threatening disease and illness, but stay together through it all, offering support and encouragement to their partners. I want to be certain that this kind of love is celebrated.”
Liz gathered the support of some of the best of the best in the wedding industry and together they officially launched this non-profit organization in January 2010. Led by National President, Sasha Souza, they currently have 20 chapters officially open for business and there are many new chapters in the development stage throughout the world. The Los Angeles/Orange County chapter is headed by the one and only, Kevin Covey, who can be seen on many television shows including: Platinum Weddings, Whose Wedding is it Anyway, and featured on E! Entertainment Television.
The organizers of Wish Upon A Wedding are happy to accept applications from those who would like a wedding wish granted, and those who would like to be a part of the Wedding Granter Team. There are many ways to help this organization, all of which can be found on their website. I hope all residents of Anaheim will contribute the best of who we are to this fabulous endeavor. Visit their website to see how you can help make dreams come true.
