This morning while scanning the news for noteworthy stories, I came across a website titled “Why weapons are better than Women/Men”. The site contains hilarious comments like “a gun never has a headache”, “weapons don’t get wrinkles”, and “a gun won’t bitch about leaving the toilet seat up”. It is evident that the comments come from unscholarly individuals and it is without question that most comments were posted by a male. Nevertheless, this website got me wondering, “Are weapons really better than the opposite sex?”
In order to answer this question, we narrow the term weapons to guns and single out the women then determine why law-abiding people own guns. Guns are used in times of war and owned by countries for their armed forces, guns are owned by civilians to be used for recreational target shooting and hunting, many people collect antique guns or guns owned by famous people, and a large segment of the population that is concerned for their safety own guns as protection. Let’s look at Guns vs. Women in each of the abovementioned scenarios:
- Guns vs. Women in War – There is no challenging a woman in the midst of PMS as our irrational behavior is significant, constant and merciless. Women win due to scare factor and insistence!
- Guns vs. Women in Target Shooting & Hunting – As the movie “My Cousin Vinny” portrays, many women are not the partner you want to go hunting with since most could never fathom shooting an animal. With that said, women generally shoot well and would be excellent target practice partners that would encourage the progress of a partner through competition. It’s a tie!
- Guns vs. Women in Self Defense – It would be unconstitutional to be denied the right of self protection and many choose to protect themselves with firearms. Even though it is possible for a woman to take down an armed villain, success is not certain without the aid of a gun or other weapon. After all, we can only rely on ourselves to protect us in any situation. Guns win due to certainty!
- Guns vs. Women in Collectibles – Really? I’m not even going to debate collectibles versus trophy wives…it’s a tie!
While it is true that a gun won’t break your heart or steal your credit cards, it is also true that a gun can’t shelter you from the cold or comfort you when you’re blue. Therefore, I conclude that it is equally important to have both a weapon and a woman because you can rely on unconditional love from a woman and unconditional protection from a Glock.
