From out of no where an American Jihadist is born
Colleen Renee LaRose of Pennsburg, Pennsylvania, in the mind of most terrorist watchers, does not fit the immediate profile for angry Muslim Jihadists.
Colleen LaRose, a 46 year old blond blue-eyed woman of fair complexion, is scheduled for arraignment next week in federal court in Philadelphia, Pennsylvania, accused of conspiring to support Islamic extremists and plotting to assassinate a Swedish artist.
Arrested October 16, 2009 after landing at the Philadelphia International Airport from a flight from the Netherlands, LaRose who has been held by the feds since her arrest has become a focal point of international news when her indictment on Tuesday was unsealed by authorities.
Federal authorities say LaRose who had previously converted to Islam and became a militant Jihadist, flew to Europe on August 23, 2009 with the intent to live and train with Muslim jihadists in a plot to find and kill Swedish artist Lars Vilks, whose 2007 portrait of the prophet Muhammad as a dog angered many Muslims.
Not the brightest of Jihadists
Apparently in terms of secrecy and cover, Colleen LaRose is not the “sharpest pencil in the box”. As an internet vixen, her alter-ego, “Jihad Jane” openly and angrily called for Muslims worldwide to rise in “Holy War” against the United States and the West. It was her fanatical and hate filled speech that caught the attention of U.S. law officials as a person of interest to watch.
To friends and neighbors that knew LaRose, her transformation into an anti-American, anti-Western wanna-be terrorist comes as a complete surprise and an utter shock. According to those that know her, she is a polite yet eccentric woman who was known to talk loudly to her cats and on occasion drown her sorrows by “hitting the bottle” hard.
Police records indicate that Colleen LaRose has a history of misdemeanor violations beginning with a charge of criminal trespass in 1985, a charge of drunken-driving in 1997 and that same year she was arrested for passing four bad checks that totaled to $390.71. Not exactly the spy and terrorist “material” written about in John Grisham novels. Or is it? Al Qaeda is actively recruiting “non traditional looking Arabs” who are sympathetic to their cause to infiltrate Western towns and cities in hope of using their “disguise” as a means of unleashing terrorist attacks on an unsuspecting public.
A personal story worthy of a beer, a Marlboro cigarette and a Loretta Lynn tune
In 1980 at the age of sixteen, Colleen LaRose married a man in Fort Worth, Texas twice her age. The marriage which was reportedly physically and mentally abusive did not last long. Eight years later, Colleen was back at the altar to wed Rodolfo Cavazos, a marriage that lasted almost ten years before finally ending in divorce. While married to LaRose, Rodolfo Cavazos earned a living by gambling in card games. Colleen, caught in a life of mounting bills, little money an unstable second marriage and an addiction to alcohol became a person living on the edge of personal destruction. It has been speculated that it was during these hard times that the Islamic faith was introduced to LaRose.
On May 21, 2005, LaRose haunted by what appears to be a sad and hard life began drinking heavily. Depressed over her father’s recent death, LaRose in an attempt to take her life, swallowed eight to 10 prescription muscle relaxers. Failing to kill herself, Colleen LaRose was now at a crossroads in her life. After months of receiving counseling for depression and alcoholism, LaRose apparently found spiritual rebirth in the form of Islam. Unfortunately, the brand of Islam that gave her purpose to live was a brand that advocated death to America, the West and Israel.
Police in the Netherlands are currently rounding up suspects that were involved with LaRose in their plot to assassinate Swedish artist Lars Vilks. As more information in the investigation is released updates to the story will be posted.
As always Louisianans, the New Orleans beepwire.com is interested in what you think. Are the feds and local law officials just looking at the “tip” of the iceberg as related to Americans who are defining themselves as secret Jihadists? Should the current profile of Islamist terrorist be re-evaluated? Inquiring minds want to know. Sound off.
Until next time Louisianans, Good Day, God Bless and Good Fishing.
