Wednesday forecast: sunny skies through Friday, but a wet weekend ahead

by beep wire

Regional synopsis…

High pressure is in place over northwestern Iowa which is keeping central Illinois dry. Cloud cover is in place over central Illinois as a result of a low pressure system located off the North Carolina coast. As this low moves off to the northeast on Wednesday, skies across the area are expected to clear out, with the high pressure keeping central Illinois dry through the remainder of the work week. On Saturday, the first of two low pressure systems is expected to impact central Illinois. This first system is expected to be the weaker of the systems, bringing only a slight chance for rain during the day on Saturday. However, the second low pressure system is expected to be a much stronger system, bringing the chance for thunderstorms to central Illinois. At this time, instability is expected to be low, making severe thunderstorms unlikely, however previous model runs have been stronger. This system will need to be monitored for any changes over the next few days.
