Warren Buffett is on the cover of the March edition of Professional Builder magazine.
In a cover story titled “BIM for Home Builders,” Buffett touts the importance of a system called Building Information Modeling (BIM) that will make home construction more efficient and error-free, and less costly.
Buffett’s Berkshire Hathaway has many businesses tied to the housing market — including Acme Brick, Johns Manville, MiTek and real estate brokerage firm HomeServices of America.
Berkshire owns BIM service provider Simpad, which is a subsidiary of MiTek.
Indirectly, Berkshire’s utilities, natural gas pipelines, railroad and trucking holdings are also tied to housing, as they deliver the products needed to build and power new homes.
Buffett was recently quoted as saying that most of the country’s housing problems should be over in a year or so, and building would then pick up to keep pace with new household formations.
