Here’s an actual tool you can use to assess your work life balance and create more work life balance.
Listed below are eight primary areas of your life from the Whole Life Wheel. Take some time to consider the level of current satisfaction you are experiencing in each area. Be sure to identify those two core pieces as well: Life purpose and life vision.
Ask yourself the included questions to assist you in getting a clear assessment. Evaluate yourself on a scale from one to ten in each area, with one representing little or no satisfaction and ten representing a maximum level of satisfaction.
Social and Friends – How are your friendships? How active are you in your community? How is your support network? How do you feel about your interpersonal skills? How would you like to see this part of your life improved?
Family and Your Inner Circle – How are your relationships with your parents? Siblings? Children? Extended family? Who is your “chosen family” or inner circle of friends you can go to at any time for any reason? What “unfinished business” (i.e. resentments, etc.) do you have with your family? How would you like your family life improved?
Vocational, Work and Volunteer Involvement – How satisfied are you with your current career? What would you rather be doing? What type of work has brought you the most satisfaction in the past? What did you always want to do but never have? How do you see your career future? What do you do to give back?
Physical and Health – How are your eating habits? How is your regular exercise program? How are your sleeping patterns? How is your weight? When was your last complete physical exam? How could your health be improved? What is the condition of your living space? How is your “clutter control”?
Recreational, Hobbies and Vacations – What do you do in your leisure time? How do you relax and have fun? What creative outlets or hobbies do you have? What creative endeavors or hobbies do you want to explore? How often do you go on vacation? Are your vacations refreshing? How could this area of your life be improved?
Financial and Cash Flow – What is your debt level? What are you doing to plan for the future? Do you have other streams of income besides your job? Do you operate from a budget or track your spending patterns? Who do you talk to about your finances? Where do you get good financial advice from? How do you want your financial future to be different?
Spiritual and Personal Growth – How’s your spirituality? How do you practice it? How do you expand it? How do you release your emotions? What do you do with emotional overload? Do you go to personal growth workshops? Read books? How would you like to see this area of your life improved? Do your primary physical environments (work, home, car) give you energy or take energy away from you?

How would you add more romance to your life? What do you do to work through disagreements? How do you enjoy each other’s company? If you’re not in a relationship, what are you doing to find a healthy relationship? What are you doing to “be your best self” so you’ll be a great partner in the future?
