Ah summer. Pools as blue as the sky, and vice versa. What could we possibly do to make this season better? Well, a great swimsuit will go a long way towards keeping the sun shining. Most modern suits are constructed for one of two things; show it off or actually swim. For a change, check out vintage and vintage style swimsuits. Unless you want to swim in wool, a la the 20’s (actually warm and nice), start with the 50’s styles. Where? http://www.glamoursurf.com is an excellent place to start! Deweese, Jantzen (love the diving gal logo!), Cole of California are all quality names.
Modern Technology does a victory lap
While styles in the 50’s were crazy fun—all ruffles and whimsy, the materials are not as quick to dry as today’s spandex and lycra. Count on hours of damp sand, actually. And, for the most part—you’ll have to replace sagging elastics and crumbling bra liners. Perhaps you should check out repro retro styles made with more useful materials. http://www.jantzen.com and http://www.uniquevintage.com And I’ve been told numerous times about the framed swimsuits up at Indian Springs in Calistoga. Tell them I sent you! http://www.indianspringscalistoga.com
What’s better than cookies with milk with vintage swimsuits —-vintage accessories. Those rubber petal caps are cuter than a bug, and don’t get me started on the Turbans, Sunglasses, Beach Shoes, Parasols and cover-ups. I’ll laze here on my towel, drink a bottle of pop and get back to that later.
