Western Colorado is known for it’s outdoor sporting activites, beautiful scenery and wildlife. This weekend you and your family can explore them all. It’s a fantastic opportunity for Grand Valley newcomers as well as long time residents to get out and see what our local outddor organizations have to offer. So, here is a pair of events brought to you by the folks at the Colorado National Monument and the local DOW.
Outdoor Heritage Day
Date: Saturday, April 24, 2010
Time: 9:00 a.m. – 4:00 p.m.
Location: Riverbend Park in Palisade, CO
Outdoor Heritage Day helps to familiarize families with the outdoor activities our Grand Valley has to offer. This is not only for the sportsman but the nature lover too.
Park Rangers from the Colorado National Monument will be hosting and staffing a Junior Ranger Booth at Riverbend Park in Palisade this Saturday. There will activities like fishing, archery, nature hikes, rock climbing, a hunting simulator and much more. There will also be tons of information available so that you and your family will be able to pursue these activites on your own.

Where’s That Critter Hiding Out?
Date: Sunday, April 25
Time: 1:00 p.m. – 3:00 p.m.
Location: Colorado National Monument at the Saddlehorn Visitors Center, Rim Rock Drive, Fruita, CO.
Now that spring is here it’s a great time for an outting to the Colorado National Monument. This is National Park week and park entrance fees have been waived for the whole week.
This cool event is for kids of all ages who are interested in becoming a “wildlife detective”. You can join the fun at the Saddlehorn Visitors Center which is located at the Fruita side of the Monument. Learn to find animals in their natural habitat using your eyes, binoculars and even a spotting scope. Kids will even get to create a special “critter craft” to take home with them.
