In an effort to increase online safety and responsibility, TrendMicro is sponsoring a video competition with a top prize of $10,000. On the website, organizers of the competition encourage contestants to share their ideas about what it means to be safe and smart online.
The competition is open to any child or adult aged 13 or older residing in the United States or Canada with the exception of Quebec. Children are especially encouraged to participate and submit entries. Suitable topics for discussion include cyberbullying, sexting, scams, spam and posting otherwise inappropriate material online.
The grand prize winner will win $10,000 while four prizes of $500 will also be awarded. Deadline for upload of entries is April 30th, 2010. During the production of the videos, entrants are asked to focus on one of four suggested topics: “Keeping a good rep online,” “Staying clear of unwanted contact,” “Accessing (legal) content that’s age-appropriate” and “Keeping the cybercrimnals out.”
The videos can be funny or serious, PSA style, skit style or anything in between. Official rules can be found here. Sample videos can also be found on the TrendMicro website here.
