Tickets go on sale today for “The Big Chill at the Big House”, which features the Michigan Wolverines hosting the Michigan State Spartans at Michigan Stadium on Saturday, December 11, 2010 with the puck dropping on 3 p.m.
The game will mark the second time in history that these two rivals have met in an outdoor game. The first meeting came back in 2001 at Spartan Stadium as MSU and U of M battled to a 3-3 tie. The game in East Lansing eight and a half years ago led to the numerous outdoor games the NHL has put on in 2003, 2008, 2009 and 2010.
The game at “The Big House” is expected to break the previous outdoor hockey attendance record, which is currently at 74,544.
The rink is slated to be located at the center of Michigan Stadium. The red line will co- inside with the 50-yard line while the end boards will run to the 17-yard lines.
December’s outdoor game will serve as one of the four annual regular season meetings for the in-state rivals. The teams will play at Joe Louis Arena in a neutral site game in addition to the teams hosting one another in their home rinks (Munn Arena in East Lansing and Yost Arena in Ann Arbor).
