This week on Days, Carly was determined to go to jail for shooting Melanie despite Bo assuring her that Hope would try and talk some sense into Melanie. Bo said that no matter how much Hope resented Carly, she had a good heart and wanted to help. Carly remarked that it must be why Bo loved her so much. Bo said that he and Hope had simply outgrown each other and Carly was the one he wanted. Hope paid Melanie a visit and tried to convince her that Carly was trying to protect her. Melanie reminded Hope that Carly failed miserably and said not to refer to Carly as her mother.
Hope walked in on Bo and Carly discussing the case and told them her talk with Melanie hadn’t gone well. When Bo left to see if Gus would give him any dirt on Vivian, Carly thanked Hope for talking to Melanie but said that it would probably be best for everyone if she went to jail. Carly told Hope that maybe with here out of the picture, she and Bo would find their way back to each other. Hope told her to take her patronizing offer straight to hell.
Max stopped by on a layover and Caroline filled him in on all the drama with Melanie. He went to see her and apologized for not being at her wedding. Melanie told Max that she still thought of him as her big brother. Max said he felt the same way and encouraged Melanie to do the right thing when it came to Carly. He said that if she let an innocent woman go to jail that she would be the one who suffered. After Max left, Daniel came to see Melanie and told her that she was the only one who could help Carly.
Carly remained adamant about pleading guilty even when Justin asked her to reconsider. As Carly’s hearing began, she announced that she’d like to change her plea to guilty. The DA recommended to maximum sentence and the judge had Carly stand. Just then, Melanie burst in and asked the judge if she could make a statement. When the lawyers told Melanie her statement would be public record, she said that’s how she wanted it. Melanie recapped her history with Carly from the spilled coffee at the Java Café to being shot on her wedding day. She said that she remembered the look on Carly’s face as she fired the gun and insisted she hadn’t meant to hurt her and that she was telling the truth. After a brief recess, the judge announced he was dropping charges and Carly was free to go. Bo and Carly hugged, and Bo left to go back to the police station. Carly approached Melanie to thank her for what she did. Melanie told Carly not to touch her. She said she kept Carly from going to prison because it was the right thing to do but that she didn’t want anything to do with her.
Phillip got a call from Justin about Melanie helping Carly and went to find Melanie. Kate tracked down Vivian to rub the news in her face. Vivian was busy preparing for a charity event at Victor’s that Victor hadn’t invited her to. As Vivian taunted Kate with every bit of dirt on her, Kate smugly told Vivian that the charges against Carly had been dropped and happily watch the smile leave Vivian’s face. An angry Vivian called a meeting with Victor and insisted he help her bring Carly down.
Nicole, forced to scrub her prison cell with a toothbrush, came to the realization that Anna was Sydney’s kidnapper when the prison guard called her “sweetpea.” Nicole bribed the guard and used her cell phone to call Anna, who was sitting on a delayed flight waiting to take off to Costa Rica. Nicole demanded that Anna get off the plane and pay her a visit. Anna asked why and Nicole told her she knew why. After a brief visit from Fay, Nicole smiled as Anna entered the room. Crediting Sami with the original phrase, Nicole yelled, “You bitch, you stole my daughter!”
Anna reminded Nicole that Sydney was Sami and EJ’s daughter but denied doing anything wrong and asked why Nicole would make the accusation. Nicole said she remembered Anna calling Sydney “sweetpea” when she took her at the bus station and realized the kidnapper’s voice matched Anna’s. Nicole hypothesized that Anna stole Sydney to avenge Tony’s death. When Nicole threatened to call Roman, Anna smirked and said that she and Roman had a great relationship and that he would believe her over Nicole, the one who had put his daughter through hell.
When Nicole threatened to call EJ, Anna finally cracked. Admitting to nothing, she asked Nicole what she wanted.
“That’s more like it,” Nicole said. Noting that Anna was a former flame of the governor’s, Nicole gave Anna 24 hours to get her out of there. Anna protested, but Nicole said she would call Sami and EJ if she wasn’t free. Anna left the prison and tried to leave a message for the governor, learning that he would be at a fundraiser at the Kiriakis mansion. Determined to get Nicole pardoned, Anna arrived at the mansion and was greeted by Victor. “I thought I told Henderson to take the trash all the way out to the curb,” he said smugly.
Anna forced her way into the mansion and was about to be escorted out when the governor arrived and was delighted to see Anna. Anna hinted strongly that Victor should give them some time alone. Anna reminded Governor Ford that he had once said he would do anything for her and that the time had come. When Anna suggested that he pardon Nicole, Governor Ford said he would help her “when hell freezes over” and told Anna that he couldn’t pardon her or it would be the end of his political career because it would be against the DiMeras’ wishes. Anna began to cry, saying that if he didn’t pardon Nicole she’d be in big trouble. She kissed Governor Ford and told him she’d do anything to show him how grateful she was if he pardoned Nicole. Governor Ford laughed but kissed her back.
Stephanie found Nathan at the hospital and said they needed to talk. At the Java Café, Stephanie admitted that when she had run into Nathan before Melanie and Phillip’s wedding she was supposed to be delivering a letter from Melanie. When Nathan asked what the letter had said, Stephanie said she hadn’t read it but she hadn’t given it to him because he kept saying he didn’t want anything to do with Melanie. Furious, Nathan stormed out, Stephanie calling after him that she had only done what she thought was right.
Chloe tried to tell Daniel that she hadn’t been seeing the psychiatrist he’d recommended, but he was paged before she got a chance. Later, Daniel walked into the Java Café with flowers and overheard Chloe tell Phillip she hadn’t been going to therapy. Daniel demanded to know why Chloe had lied to him. When Chloe became defensive, Daniel offered to go to therapy with her. Chloe went to the prison to visit Nicole and get some advice. Nicole advised Chloe to become Daniel’s biggest ally if she wanted to keep him and to never let her forget that Carly had kept their daughter a secret.
Will kissed Mia at the Java Café as a jealous Chad looked on. When Gabi asked what was wrong, Chad said he and Gabi shouldn’t be going out because he still wasn’t over Mia. When Will left, Mia came up and kissed Chad, asking him to go out with her. While on their date, Mia dropped her necklace, which Chad found. Gabi showed up and asked Chad for Kinsey’s phone number so she could give her the history homework assignment. Feeling awkward, Chad made an excuse to leave. Gabi found Mia’s necklace and picked it up just as Will walked by.
Despite concern from Brady, Rafe and the rest of Salem, Sami continued to let EJ stay in her apartment so they could both be close to Sydney. EJ remarked to himself that his new plan, to make Sami fall in love with him and break her heart, was better than his last. Rafe grew hot on the trail to find Sydney, searching the cottage for clues. EJ became distressed and when Rafe picked up on it, EJ said he was just anxious to find the kidnapper. Later in the week, Brady showed up at Sami’s apartment to tell him that he and Arianna were engaged and was disappointed to find EJ there. Sami and Brady went to the pub where Arianna and Rafe were waiting. The four of them drank champagne to celebrate Arianna and Brady’s engagement and Sami casually mentioned she was applying for a job at the FBI. She asked Rafe for a recommendation but he said he didn’t think it was a good idea.
Meanwhile, Lexie and Theo showed up at Sami’s. Theo went off to play with Johnny. Lexie
wondered what EJ was up to but he insisted nothing was going on. When Sydney started to cry, Lexie went into her bedroom to get her. While she was gone, Theo came into the living room and told EJ that Johnny had told him his secret: that Sydney had been safe with him all along.
