Clarks Hill lake near Augusta, is one of the top ten bass fishing hot spot largemouth bass fisheries in the nation. It is the largest man made impoundment east of the Mississippi with about 73,000 acres to angle between 1946-1954. Striper, White, Hybrid are also stocked there now. Clarks Hill Lake provides a handicapped accessible dock and three boat docks to drop your boat into.
Mistletoe State Park provides the recreation for the bass lake, picnicing, camping, located at 3725 Mistletoe rd, Appling, GA 30802. Take Interstate 20 to exit 175, head north on GaHwy 150. As Clarks Hill/Thurmond lake is known for its largemouth bass fishing, Misteltoe State park is known for its running trails.
Right now the lake is down 3.3 feet and stained at 66 degrees. Atlanta Fishing report.
Largemouth bass fishing tips:
Drop shot, when you are shaking the worm do not lift the weight off the bottom.
Swimbait, pull along the shoreline and outside the grass cover, and then work your way inside. Some say start inside and work your way outside of the cover, either way work it throughly is the main point because there is sure to be a strike at your bait.
Yum Money Minnow, it looks about as real as you can get it, just like a real shad or minnow in the water. Put your hook in the nose and out the throat and back into the belly/hook slot. These are excellent for catching some largemouth bass they come in sevral colors and sizes, 31/2″, 5″ and 61/2.” Throw it around bushes and docks, heavy cover and the fish will be eating out of your hand. You can use them just about any way, a weighted keel hook is another one, hiding the weight in the belly slot. Good for fishing on these big lakes to catch these big fish
