The Madison, it’s not your ordinary downtown Long Beach restaurant.
Going to the Madison is something of a treat. It’s the restaurant you go to for a fun event, a special event, a celebration. On the corner of 1st and Pine, it is located in a nearly century old former bank building. Think of a high ceiling, a really high ceiling. Think of days before ATM’s where you stood in line for a teller who knew your name. That’s the atmosphere of the Madison.
The Madison is a throwback to the days of elegance and atmosphere, a piano bar in the corner, friendly bartender working behind a true mahogany bar, priceless chandeliers above you, dark and romantic tables. It’s a place you look around to see if Bugsy Siegel or one of the Rat Pack is dining across the room from you.
The wine list at the Madison is large, with a significant emphasis on heavier reds. Since this is primarily a chop and steak house, this is not necessarily a bad thing. The challenge, as always with a large list, is actually choosing something which will be significant to you.
If you are a beef lover, think of the Beef Wellington. For steaks, when was the last time you saw a Delmonico steak on the menu? Or a Porterhouse for Two? There are lots of tempting entrées on the menu, and again, making a choice is often difficult.
The Madison is a place where you can sit back and enjoy your meal. You will not feel rushed to get in and out. And at the same time, this is a restaurant more on the continental side, you come in and sit for a meal, which is an evening experience. It’s worth it! (Just as an aside. In many countries, you “book” your table for an evening. It’s yours, period. No other party will be waiting 2 hours later. You sit back and enjoy, the meal, the wine, the friends. Think of that when you are at the Madison.)
Go out, have a good meal, drink a nice wine, chat with your friends, enjoy yourself.
