What do you have the death grip on? Is it a person or an object? Is it an emotion or a stronghold? What is it that you are refusing to let go of that is coaxing you in the direction of death? If God were to open your spiritual eyes right now, you would probably find that you are walking hand in hand with death, refusing to let go because death’s stench has been perfumed with lies, it’s face transformed to project the beauty that it does not have and it’s words are soothingly disceptive. Why? Because if the things in life that we desire so much and the people we fight so hard to keep would come to us unmasked, we’d make a break for the border. But, the world has become comfortable in living a lie. Your friends want to hear lies…it’s more relaxing than the truth to them. A drunk likes to hear how alcohol is good to the kidneys. People who like to smoke marijuana want to hear that it is an herb, therefore they feel justified in smoking it. Those practicing sexual immorality like to be told how Samson had a problem similar to theirs. (But, they do not want to hear the ultimate price he paid for it.) Lukewarm Christians like to be praised only for their hours of sainthood, yet they expect you to turn a blind eye to their sin. The world is in the death grip and most of them are not trying to break free of it.
Could it be pornography that has your soul entangled in it’s fangs? Or how about unforgiveness? Whatever your poison is, it is still deadly and no amount of words will justify you in it. You have to be delivered from it and no, not tomorrow, you have to make a decision for you today. How do you know if you will see tomorrow? If the dead were to arise, how many of them would testify to you about how they procrastinated in doing the right thing, only to find themselves dying a sinner? We have gotten so caught up in the ‘time’ factor that we think we have more of it, but the truth is knocking at your door. Open it and live. Death comes through the window and sneaks up on it’s unsuspecting prey. Everlasting life awaits you if you would only give yourself to Christ. It is not as hard as you think. You await a change in yourself, praying for something to happen, but you have to move on your faith. I have seen so many individuals with a deadly addiction overcome it because they got serious about it. They gave it to God and they allowed wisdom to guide them away from the door of temptation. That could be you one day….that could be you today….but, it is not up to the people surrounding you. It is up to you. God has made Himself available to you and Christ is your Mediator. Why not use the blood of Christ on yourself? Sitting there knowing that the blood has power does not cause it’s power to be effective in your life if you refuse to use it.
Live life, forgive often and pray like you would if you were trapped by 3 lions. Everyday, you are surrounded by evil. Everyday, the enemy has a plan for you, but Christ has one for you as well. Whose planner are you opening? You cannot force yourself through the gates of heaven by proclaiming to be a Christian. You have to be a Christian. Some of you are baptized atheists, not believing truly in Christ…confused and doing whatever you can to ensure that you pick up the right set of cards. What does that mean? You live by the ‘just in case’ rule. You think, “Just in case there is a God, let me get baptized.” But, your fruit shows who you really are. Because if you TRULY believed in God, you would run away from the things you indulge in, but you immerse yourself in wrong because it feels so right. Selfishness clothes you and you wear the Christian costume to appear to be righteous, however, the Word of God exposes the darkness. Ask yourself this. If I die today, where am I going? If your answer is either: a.) Hell, b.) I don’t know, c.) I would just be dead, or d.) I would go to the sinners section in heaven, you’d better open your eyes and realize where you are. It is a dangerous place.
Now is the time to give Satan back his keys. End that relationship now and whatever addiction has plagued you. Break the grips of any stronghold by being obedient to the Word of God. You were not put here to waste away. Christ proved that by dying for us. Now, it is time for you to get out of the ‘death grip’ and embrace Christ. “For the wages of sin is death; but the gift of God is eternal life through Jesus Christ our Lord.” (Romans 6:23)
