Mercury is once again retrograde in the earth sign Taurus, indicating our current focus will be on career, jobs, and money.
Additionally, Saturn has backed up, is re-visiting Virgo and once again coming into opposition with Uranus in Pisces.
As the Saturn-Uranus opposition tightens it sets the stage for the next act of a recurring drama that likely began in November, 2008. We are dealing with long-term change that arises from the clash between the old and the new, fear and excitement, and caution and recklessness
This is likely to reignite the tug of war between playing it safe and breaking the rules. So weather you’re holding on to the security of the past or pushing for radical change, do it with a cool head and common sense.
Though this tension is felt by all. It’s a particularly relevant time for those in the midst of a Saturn and/or Uranus transitional phase, including those having their Saturn return or Uranus opposition.
As a follow up on my rescent article ~ “The mid-life crisis ~ or crazies ~ your Uranus opposition” , I’d like to recommend a much more detailed article by astrologer Donna Cunningham that is posted on her Sky Writer blog, “Career Challenges for the Pluto-Uranus in Virgo Generation”.
The group that dominates the work force now is the 40 somethings–the 1960s astrological generation with both Pluto and Uranus in Virgo. The past several years, they’ve been going through their mid-life crisis–and I mean going through it!! Let’s see what’s special about their mid-life era.
A story in USA Today on 1/9/08 detailed a recent study by two economists who analyzed data from over two million people in 80 countries on depression, anxiety, mental well-being, happiness and life satisfaction. People in their 40s were more likely to be depressed and weren’t as happy as other ages. For both sexes, the probability of depression was greatest around age 44.
Midlife was such a low point for wellbeing that it fell at the bottom of a U-shaped curve that indicated greater happiness among the young and old. The study’s co-author, Andrew Oswald, concluded:
”It’s something deep, beyond all the controls in our equation. It’s a developing midlife low. It doesn’t just happen one year and go away another. My best conjecture is that people eventually learn to quell infeasible aspirations. They manage to get their expectations into line with what they can actually achieve. Read more ~

As I said in my previous article the transition into mid-life signified by the Uranus opposition, does not have to be difficult ~ it can be positive, negative, or have little impact on the individual ~ but, the further a individual is from their uniqueness and the more trapped in conventions and compromises, the more the individual is likely to react in a radical manner.
- Congratulations, you’re 30 and have survived your first Saturn return!
