In Debary , Florida on the St. John’s River is a bar-restaurant name swamp house grill . They are more of a tourist trap than any thing else. The location is beautiful and the surrounding area is gorgeous. The restaurant itself is not all its cracked up to be . They say come taste the real Florida, but where in Florida can you catch an Ahi tuna ? I don’t understand? Yes , they have such traditional items such as Fried catfish and cornbread and even gator tail , but certain things on the menu ,just didn’t make sense . I could imagine to the cooks trying to cook fish and other things then going back to a dish such as chicken Florentine in a restaurant that has no business doing such dishes . In the words of very successful chef Gordon Ramsay ,” Stick to one theme and do the best you can at it and don’t try to overload your menu.” . The menu should be more of a southern influence of indigenous items only known to Florida to bring more customers wanting a taste of what Florida has to offer and not some knock off of something the owner liked in another restaurant .I was surprised that there was no macaroni and cheese or collard greens or one of a dozen other things that belong in Florida cuisine. I have no reservations about going there for drinks and appetizers , but for a full meal go somewhere else and come here afterwords for drinks and a good time on the water in the beautiful Florida sunshine. You can also pull into a slip and go to eat there as your cruising down the Saint John’s River . They are located at the end of High bank’s Road just before the boat launch.
