Nothing kicks off a Sunday morning better than a plate of pancakes, sausage, scrambled eggs, biscuits and gravy, and hash browns. Unless of course you can have all of that while eating healthy at the same time, then Vertical Diner is your answer. Everything here is vegan, which means not only is there no meat, but no animal products like milk and eggs are used, as well as no refined sugars.
The restaurant resembles a retro-1950s diner, with cool plush vinyl seats, and silver-lined tables. The cuisine is American diner fare, with Mexican influences. Breakfast is served all-day, along with “chicken” fingers, burgers, quesadillas, nachos, and hearty salads. Each made with fresh, and mostly local ingredients. Instead of beef, you can choose from a soy-based patty, or a sunflower seed and brown rice based patty. Tofu scramble makes a great egg-substitute, and other proteins include tempeh and portabella mushrooms.
These are some of the best pancakes I have had, and it is amazing they are made without milk and eggs. Their sausage patties are the best sausage I have had that isn’t pork. Of course Vertical Diner is a great choice for vegetarian and vegan diners, but it is equally as good for omnivores. You can eat great, and not even miss the meat.
Vertical Diner is open seven days a week, from 10am-9pm. You can easily dine under $10 per person. Beer & wine are available, as well as espresso drinks.
