To paraphrase many poets, What price, romance?
Is it a big bill at a upscale restaurant, in a decor drenched in crimson and gold?
Or could love be expressed next to a waterfall and big shade trees for $3.25?
Cheap Eats likes both, for different occasions.
It’s tough to find a quiet place on The Strip, or a cool place in our desert heat, or a place by the water where a couple can sit comfortably — yes, we know, you can hang off the ledge at Bellagio to watch the fountain show — or a place on The Strip where two can cuddle with some privacy, so Cheap Eats makes it easy to find all four, in true luxury.
Go to the back of Wynn, past all the high-end shops, to find the Pizza Place.
Don’t be misled by the name: This is designed as a dine-and-dash place, but there’s cosy, private seating and pleasant counter service.
It has a licence too, with domestic beer at $6 and wines starting at $11 for a 2007 Pinot Noir from Alois Legeder Riff of Italy.
Cheap Eats recommends iced coffees at $3.25 each.
Take them to the back of the restaurant, where a sweet little patio wraps around a manmade pool and a waterfall.
The falls are so powerful, that sweet nothings aren’t whispered easily.
So sit and chat, or — as we saw one couple last week — ignore each other and just read books.
Red umbrellas are a bright counterpoint to the cool greenery surrounding the place: Both give shade and muffle noise from The Strip.
Inside, deli-type fare includes: 22-inch pizzas ($22.95 for the whole or $4.95 per slice, for no-frills pizza), meatball sliders ($5), soup of the day ($5), and garlic and parmesan fries ($4.50).
For something different, try risotto mozarella sticks, at $6.
Skip the salads — basic greens are just $4 but were so limp we were surprised anyone would put them in a display case, especially at a five-star hotel like Wynn.
More customers seem to go for the gelato ($4.95 to $6.95). It’s $1 more in a waffle cone, and toppings are 75 cents each.
And in case romance isn’t what you had in mind, there are big-screen TVs. Pizza Place is open 9 a.m. to 11 p.m. Sun. through Thurs.; 9 a.m. to midnight Fri. and Sat.
