BattleTech has been influenced by and has influenced genres, games and fiction for a full quarter of a century now and what better way to celebrate than for Catalyst Game Labs to release this mammoth volume of art and lore from the universe so many have come to love.
Although the book was release in July of ’09 it has since then ceased production and is hard to find. Although this tome definitely deserves another look and is a timeless glance into the reasons why BattleTech has become so famous. The fiction is second to none and really adds a depth and richness to the feel of the BattleTech Universe, but what really makes this book shine is the amazing pieces of art that fill this book.
Eventhough the content of this book should have made this product a hugely popular success, the pending legal battle over images of certain Mechs that may have broken some copyright laws from the 1980’s, has made this book an obscure treasure for only the most avid (and somewhat rich) fans.
Due to this small publishing number before the title was pulled, awaiting resolution of the legal issues (a problem that is also holding up the production of the 25 anniversary starter box – an article for a later date) this coffee table size book is extremely hard to find. Only Amazon.com seemed to offer any copies of the item new, and those came at a sizable investment. Even Ebay was at a lack for any titles.
The best bet to find any of these would be to contact your Friendly – Local – Game – Store and see if they were lucky enough to nab a copy before the production had ceased. One place that was found to have a single copy listed for sale new, and at cover price, was TC Paintball, in Traverse City, MI.
This book would make a fantastic addition to any hardcore BattleTech fans collection, but it may just set you back a few pennies to do so. But what the hey, the treasure hunt is half the fun!
Until next time – Game on and game well.
