What a discovery! Local Target stores have recently installed recycling bins near the checkout stands. This is a great way to encourage recycling to everyone, not just those who already know about it.
Since there is a food stand and a Starbucks in most stores, this is even more convenient. Did you finish your iced coffee by the time you made it to checkout? Now worries, just drop it in the plastic bin.
The bins available are plastic bags, glass/plastic/aluminum, MP3/cell phone/ink cartridge. Trying to figure out what to do with your old cell phone, but don’t want to go out of your way? Drop it in the bin. Did you forget to bring your reuseable bag? After shopping, just drop the plastic one in the bin.
True, there are other places you can drop all these items, but the nice thing is really the convenience. Hopefully this will influence other major retailers to do the same. Currently, Best Buy also accepts cell phones for recycling, and Staples offers ink cartridge recycling.
