Sterling’s Crab & Oyster House is located at 401 W. 29th Street — on the fringes of the Remington neighborhood — so you may have never gone there or passed it by in a hurry to I-83. Admittedly a little rough around the edges, they have been serving seafood that people have been raving over since 1949. They’re open Monday – Saturday from 10 am to 9 pm, and Sunday from noon to 6 pm. There are two stools at a counter where you can eat and watch all the magic happen in giant steamers, or just do carryout.
Seafood here is very fresh and the recipes are old school. That means the crab cakes, coddies, etc., might have some darker meat and are breaded with a traditional Maryland cracker meal coating. No white panko crumbs here! The flavors are substantial, meaty, and there.
Soups are homemade and the cream of crab is rich and flavorful. It might be a little salty for some, but it’s definitely not just a roux that a crab flew over.
Their seafood sub is the steal/deal of the week, if not for the whole month! A half is $8.55 — it will definitely feed you — and a whole is $17.10. Listen to everything that’s in the sub: fried shrimp, scallops, crabcake, fried fish (haddock, a firm white fish), with pickles, cocktail sauce, onion, and lettuce. Everything tastes hearty and delicious individually, but together, they’re a work of art! Now, this combo is a grown-up sub. With the sharper condiments, even the hungriest he-man will be content. Plus, you don’t have to choose your favorite seafood — you get it all!
If you’re still craving a little something, there are all kinds of homemade sides available like shrimp macaroni, shrimp potato salad, greens. deviled eggs, yams, western fries, and hush puppies.
There are specials daily and they even will deliver to your office: call 410-467-7710 for details.
