If you missed the excitement of the disc dog demonstration last weekend at UCD’s Picnic Day, fear not; you will get a chance to see these high-flying Frisbee-catchers in action again this weekend. Disc Dogs of the Golden Gate will present their sixth annual “Ye Olde Pups and Pubs Classic” this Sunday, April 25, 2010.
The event will take place in Dixon at 1035 Parkgreen Dr. All experience levels, including first-timers, are welcome to attend. Registration will begin at 9 a.m. and the competition will begin at 10 a.m. Registration fees range from $5 to $10 for the three offered divisions. There will also be a stand-alone long distance competition. The organizers request that participants bring water for themselves and their dogs, chairs, shade and tie-outs or crates. Dogs in heat are not allowed.
The tournament will be run according to UFO local tournament rules. UFO is an organization that creates Frisbee dog event series in conjunction with Frisbee dog clubs. They also track points and manage the Frisbee dog World Cup series and finals. For more information about the UFO, as well as the 10th annual World Series, please visit http://www.ufoworldcup.org/.
Novice and Pro division participants will complete two sixty-second rounds of toss-and-fetch. Open exhibitors will complete one round of toss-and-fetch and one round of freestyle set to music. The rules are simple; the more Frisbees the dog catches, the more points the team receives. Longer throws that are caught earn more points.
The “Ye Olde Pups and Pubs Classic” is presented by Disc Dogs of the Golden Gate (DiscDoGG), a Northern California group that hosts disc dog events, including play days and competitions, and provides training resources for disc dog participants.
