Wilkes Community College
The clock is ticking down as Merlefest is on the horizon. This festival is an annual bluegrass lovers paradise. MerleFest was founded in 1988 in memory of Eddy Merle Watson as a fundraiser for Wilkes Community College and a celebration of “traditional plus” music. Each year the festival is held on the campus of Wilkes Community college in Wilkesboro, North Carolina.
This year’s line up is nothing less than what we’ve come to expect from MerleFest organizers. With artists like the Avett Brothers, The Zac Brown Band, Taj Mahal, Little Feat, Sam Bush, Elvis Costello and the Sugarcanes, Steve Martin with the Steep Canyon Rangers, Peter Rowan, Tony Rice and of course Doc Watson on this year’s bill, there is sure to be something for everyone.

Featuring four days of performances by over 100 artists on 15 stages, MerleFest is an affordable weekend getaway. Sounds of bluegrass, blues, gospel, country and Americana will fill the air. This year’s award-winning lineup represents a group of artists who have collectively earned over 20 Grammy® Awards, 46 International Bluegrass Music Awards and 4 Americana Music Association Awards, among many others.
In addition to music, MerleFest offers special activities and shopping, all in a family-friendly atmosphere. The Shoppes at MerleFest is a centrally located shopping village featuring demonstrating artisans, vendors, convenience foods. The Little Pickers area, expanded in size and scope this year, offers kid-friendly activities, crafts and entertainment.
