Peter Kamais of Kenya won the NYC Half Marathon on Sunday, March 21, 2010 with an unofficial time of 59:52. It was a course record.
Moses Kignen-Kipkosgei also of Kenya was second with a 1:00:38, and Mohammed Trafeh of the United States was third in 1:00:40.
Trafeh immigrated to the U.S. from Morocco. He spoke with Flotrack immediately after the race, saying that he initially felt that second place was within reach. Unfortunately, his legs gave out. “My legs were just too tired,” he told Flotrack.
Race favorite Haile Gebrselassie lead for the first part of the race, but literally stopped running at one point, reportedly holding his chest and gasping. He eventually dropped out. His last recorded time was 28:51 at the 10k mark.
