Or maybe it should be said that Penske Racing (NASCAR) and Team Penske (IndyCar) are win/win – on and on. The 2010 performance for Penske has been strong in all racing venues with numerous wins and podium finishes. In part two of this focus requested by Facebook.com fan Jeff Hood more information surfaces about the organization’s overall success.
With the IXOD IndyCar and NASCAR Sprint Cup Series off until this weekend it was time for Penske’s Nationwide Dodge team to shine. That opportunity was the standalone NASCAR Nationwide weekend at Nashville without the Sprint Cup Series in town.
Justin Allgaier spoke about the possibilities.
“Where there aren’t as many Cup guys, the competition is really, really intense.” Allgaier said . “The guys that you’re racing with on a weekly basis really seem to step it up. It all comes down to the fact that we want to win races. It’s not like we feel that we can’t when the Cup guys are racing with us, but when it’s just the Nationwide regulars, you feel like you’ve got an even better chance.
Cup guy Kevin Harvick has his own Nationwide team and he brought that car to the checker flag first, but again Penske Racing finished strong with Allgaier in fourth and Keselowski in fifth.
“We passed a ton of cars on that last restart,” Keselowksi said “And just ran out of laps at the end of the race to go after a win. It was a great day for Penske Racing and Dodge in the points.”
Allgaier showed again his ability to bring the car home near the front of the pack.
“I just can’t say enough about this Verizon Wireless team; they do such a great job every weekend,” Allgaier said. “It’s tough to win when you’re making green flag pit stops because one little thing can go wrong and it just causes a lot of problems. But give credit to our team, they hung in there and gave me a great race car to bring home a top-five finish. The bigger picture is that we had another great point’s day and Penske is still 2-3 in driver points.”
Keselowski is second in NASCAR Nationwide Series 16 points behind Carl Edwards and Allgaier is third, only 21 points away from the top.
