This Saturday night, passionate artists and animal advocates will unite for the third edition of PawCasso, a benefit for Arlington-based rescue organization Homeward Trails Animal Rescue. The event, taking place at the newly remodeled Council of Foreign Relations in downtown D.C, will benefit the Homeward Trails Medical Fund, a specialized fund for animals who need surgery, special medication, rehabilitation, or behavioral training.
Unlike many of the larger art-oriented fundraisers dotting the D.C. social calendar, PawCasso is focusing exclusively on the work of well-known local artists. The live auction will feature works of various sizes, styles and price ranges, and will host many of the artists on site so that guests are able to ask questions before they purchase. In addition to the live art auction, there will also be a large silent auction featuring more than 100 donations including massage certificates, vacation home stays, restaurant certificates, yoga classes, private airplane rides, and winery tours.
“This event is so fun because it combines animal lovers with art lovers in a great evening that benefits both,” states Homeward Trails Founder and Executive Director Sue Bell. “I love that we can drive attention to local artists who are supporting our animal rescue efforts; it’s such a win-win for everyone involved.”
Bell’s motivation for this event comes from animals like Chester, who came into the rescue with a broken jaw, a broken leg, buckshot in his side, and multiple broken teeth. After significant medical treatment and thousands of dollars in veterinary bills, Homeward Trails was only able to assist him because of previous donations to the Medical Fund. Bell hopes that PawCasso draws a large turnout, so animals like Chester that need that extra attention can continue to be a part of the Homeward Trails family.
PawCasso 2010 takes place on Saturday, April 24th from 6PM until 11PM at the Council on Foreign Relations, located at 1777 F St. NW, Washington, DC.
