According to Kansas City Dog Advocates, the city of Olathe is considering reducing time for impounded animals to get adopted. Right now, in Olathe, when a stray animal is brought in, they are put in a cage for 3 days. After three days, if an owner hasn’t reclaimed them or if they have not been adopted-they are killed. The hold time is essentially to enable an owner to reclaim a lost pet, getting adopted is just a perk. Some shelters don’t even advertise animals as adoptable and just kill them if nobody calls for a specific animal.
Now, the city of Olathe is considering lowering the amount of time an animal has to make it out of the shelter alive just to save money. This goes against the philosophy of no kill. Read more about no kill here. If they change this ordinance, more innocent animals will be KILLED. Click here to find your council person to tell of your opposition.
