The Democrats are high on the edge of their seats, coaxing the votes they need to pass this behemoth of a bill that is too muddled to truly comprehend.
Obama postponed a trip for this. According to AP writer, Erica Werner, “The president is wooing freshman Democrats in the Oval Office, holding at least two one-on-one sessions in the past few days that never appeared on his official schedule, according to aides to two lawmakers invited, Reps. Scott Murphy, D-N.Y., and Suzanne Kosmas, D-Fla.” Read the rest here.
Since last Monday, Obama has told Congress, “We need courage.” In an article addressing that in the Tacoma News Tribune, a man from Tacoma responded with a comment of, “”We need courage” is not as moving as my favorite quote, “just say ‘no’.”
In response to the front page article today, another man said, “The CBO also said the stimulus package would cost $789 Billion but ended up costing $75 MORE.”
The Congress people will not have the same mandatory health coverage, by the way. They receive private insurance through Federal Employees Health Benefits Program.
Mandatory, means ‘no choice’
If that isn’t the most un-American word. Mandatory is what happens when people become so independent that they lose personal responsibility on how their actions affect those around them, their community.
When people stop being responsible for their choices, laws like ‘no smoking within 20 feet of a door or window’, ‘no talking on cell phone while driving’, etc. happen. People have stopped being conscious of how their actions affect others and therefore the law has to contain them because they’ve abused their freedom.
What do the people of Tacoma have to say about mandatory health care? Where does this fall in line with the virtues and character of personal responsibility, not only for people, but insurance companies (that are run by people)?
