Next and its online counterpart Rule of Next, are part of Rob Rosenthal and Steve Silver’s plan to “put a fresh tee on everyone’s back and a crisp sneaker on everyone’s foot.” The store offers a wide range of brands that have an urban feel whether that be street, skater, surfer or club kid.
Next has five locations, one on Coventry (216.320.92751796 Coventry Rd, Cleveland Hts, OH 44118), Beachwood (216.593.0029, 26300 Cedar Rd, Beachwood, OH 44122), Richmond Mall (440.442.9055, 691 Richmond Rd., Richmond Hts, OH 44143), Randall (216-581-2340, 4779 Northfield Rd, N. Randall, OH 44128) and Shaker (216.751.3318, 13300 Shaker Blvd, Cleveland, OH 44120).
The stores remind me of boutiques on Melrose in LA. They seem to be more of a gallery for clothes than a retail establishment. The stores are attractively designed and decorated and feature interesting artwork, displays, and seating. I’ve been in there four times and the staff has always been nice – they look and act like they belong in a very urbane setting.
I imagine the biggest problem with Next is it looks like a place that is very expensive so maybe some younger people who the shop is geared toward pass by. It is affordable. I was actually surprised because it looks like it is going to be expensive. If I was closer to 20 than 40, I would probably shop there all the time. When all displayed together, with the attractive furnishings and cool staff, one actually thinks there is hope in Cleveland for fashion.
