New Haven Restaurant Week kicks off tomorrow, Sunday April 18 and runs through Friday April 23, 2010. This week-long culinary celebration attracts diners to downtown New Haven, Connecticut to enjoy great food, special events, and shopping discounts. With twenty seven restaurants participating, New Haven Restaurant Week is a wonderful way to get out and try something new without breaking the bank.
Each restaurant offers their own prix fixe three-course lunch and/or dinner menu consisting of assorted appetizers, entrées and desserts. Diners can choose one dish from each category and the price is certainly right: $16.38 for lunch and $29.00 for dinner (plus tax and gratuity). Because of the popularity of this event, reservations are strongly recommended. Free parking is available from 6 – 10 p.m. in designated lots.
Gourmet offerings include everything from Italian and southwestern fusion, to Cuban and sushi, and of course, classic American cuisine (participating restaurants and menus). Depending on which restaurant you visit, some of the outrageously delicious foods you might try include wild mushroom quesadilla with truffle sour cream, seared Chilean salmon with ginger chardonnay sauce, and Smore crème brulée.
Special events include the 3rd Annual “Iron Chef Elm City” competition and a Downtown New Haven Culinary Tour. The “Iron Chef Elm City” competition will be held on the 18th at the Delia Showroom in Wallingford. Chefs from L’Orico, Basta, and Bespoke restaurants will create a three-course meal from “secret ingredients”. The Downtown New Haven Culinary Tour is a guided walking tour of historic New Haven which will take place on Saturday April 24th. Be prepared to sample as you go!
