Nathan Lane, David Paymer, Dan Castellaneta, Yeardley Smith and Linda Purl star in L.A. Theatre Works Radio Theater Series presentation of The Odd Couple by Neil Simon which airs on 89.3 KPCC 10 p.m. Saturday, April 24. The free broadcast can also be streamed on demand at http://www.latw.org/.
Simon’s classic comedy about divorced friends and poker buddies, fastidious Felix and sloppy Oscar who make the monumental mistake of becoming roommates hit Broadway in 1965 starring Art Carney and Walter Matthau. The show morphed into a successful 1968 film starring Matthau and Jack Lemmon, then a television show (1970-75) starring Tony Randall and Jack Klugman. A 2005 Broadway revival starred Matthew Broderick and Nathan Lane who reprises his role in the LATW broadcast.
The broadcast also includes an extended feature on “famous buddies in theater.”
