Mt. Washington Tavern has been on my list for a while but it isn’t known for discounted food. Combining money saving tips #2 and #3, we decided to share the Buffalo wings appetizer for $7.95 and the Kobe Burger as our entrée for $12.00. Our bill just barely squeaked under the $10.00 per person “cheap eats” standard.
If you enjoy wings but hate the sticky fingers, order them dusted with Old Bay instead of Buffalo style. The breading wasn’t too heavy, they were cooked perfectly, and the bleu cheese dipping sauce was the perfect compliment with a very mild flavor.
We ordered our burger well done, but it was medium at best. A small cluster of shoestring potatoes topped the lettuce and tomato. The potatoes added an enjoyable crunchy texture and I found the beef very delectable. Even though I enjoyed the meat, we did order it well done. My fiancée then told about eating here before and her salad greens were wilted to the point that a discerning chef would deem them not servable. We finished our meal and overheard the unhappy utterances of the couple to our left. Only one of their meals arrived and they were still waiting for the other dish fifteen minutes later.
Will we go again? Yes, but not for dinner. Our medium burger and the inedible salad from her previous visit suggest there may be some lack of attention to detail in the kitchen. However, we are interested in checking out future happy hours. Each weeknight, they offer a limitless appetizer and drink deals from 5pm-7pm. Buy yourself a discounted drink and snack on the free tacos, wings, quesadillas, oysters, or large steamed shrimp. The cheap drinks and free snacks help soften the blow from watching your NCAA bracket crumble on one of several televisions placed throughout the establishment.
