Saliva, the rock band formed right here in Memphis in 1996, is scheduled to perform at this year’s Rocklahoma, a three day rock soiree that includes forty of the finest hard rock acts on three different stages.
For those of you who might be thinking you’ve never heard of this supercharged pentacle of rock perfection, chances are, you’re probably wrong.
The single “Ladies and Gentlemen,” the bands first single from their fifth studio album, Blood Stained Love Story has been used in several marketing campaigns for a variety of television networks and products. World Wresting Entertainment (WWE) adopted the single as their official theme song for WrestleMania 23, as well as being used by the NFL Network during coverage of Super Bowl XLI. Sony used the single in their promotional ads for Playstation 3, and the song also appeared in the 2008 film Jumper.
The band’s legacy began with the release of their self-titled debut album in August of 1997, before releasing five other albums under their current label, Def Jam Records (one of which has gone double platinum while three have gone gold.) The band opened up for KISS and Aerosmith in 2003, and it seemed as if a musical fairytale was in the making until May 2005 when original member Chris D’ABaldo announced he was leaving the band “for obvious reasons, as the band is not a unit anymore.” D’ABaldo is now with another band, Egypt Central, who also hails from Memphis.
The band didn’t let this setback slow them down. They replaced Chris with another Chris; Chris Hahn, that is, but that didn’t last and Hahn was eventually replaced with Jonathan Montoya, who is currently still with the band.
They’ve played at a montage of venues all over the country since, but never seem to forget where it is they came from. They play locally as often as they can, with the next local stop being May 15 at Sam’s Town in Tunica, MS, before heading to Pryor, OK where they will be one of twelve headlining acts at this year’s Rocklahoma. They will be sharing the stage with acts such as Godsmack, Buckcherry, Chevelle, Theory of a Deadman, Tesla, and Cinderella, among many more.
The band’s seventh studio album, Take That Society, is set to be released in late 2010.
