At 1 p.m., attend the “Canis Latran” Writing Contest Awards Program where Lori Wilde, award-winning author of more than 53 romance and adventure novels and underwriter of the cash awards given to the winners of the Wrting Contest, will present a cash award to the winner of the contest. North Texas Speculative Fiction (NTSFW) author Troy Young will be presented with a cash award personally from Lori Wilde for his humorous short story, ‘The Case Of The Golden Medallion’. Troy’s story will be included in this years Canis Latrin Anthology. At the awards ceremony part of the story will be read aloud by one of the drama students or faculty.
Fort Worth author Laurie Moore will be signing her books and speaking Saturday. She’ll have a class on “Writing Snappy Dialogue” at 9 a.m. and 10:15 a.m. Her latest book, Deb on Arrival-Live at Five: A Debutante Detective Mystery. Moore is a former law enforcement officer and DA investigator, and currently a practicing attorney with a law office located in the Cultural District in Fort Worth. She sets her mysteries in the Fort Worth Police Homicide Unit and the Tarrant County Constable’s office.
Accomplished actress, director, playwrite and audiobooks performance artist C.J. Critt, who is also teaching at the book and author festival this Saturday, said this week that Laurie “Moore’s Deb on Arrival – Live at Five, is the kind of book [Janet] Evanovich’s fans would like.”
Award winning journalist and former newspaper columnist, Mary Rogers, will be the keynote speaker. Author of Dancing Naked, Memorable Encounters with Unforgettable Texans, Mary Rogers is a Texas-based storyteller whose narrative style cuts to the marrow making her character profiles, essays and memoirs throb with a universal truth.
Classes will be presented with such authors as Fort Worth Star Telegram columnist Dave Leiber, Dallas speculative fiction author and DFW Writers’ Workshop member Kyle White, poetess Carol Dawson, Texas author Sherri Knight, Fort Worth mystery author Laurie Moore, fiction author and DFW Writers’ Workshop 2010 Presisident Russell Connor, also a member of the DFW Writers’ Workshop Ken Ingle, and many more.
