Like a manic Garrison Keillor, Kevin Kling tells the stories of his quirky neighbors and family in “How? How? Why? Why? Why?”, which wraps up its run at the Cincinnati Playhouse in the Park this weekend.
In a casual setting that includes a kitchenette set, an easy chair and clothes hanging out to dry, Kling talks about his uncle who lets his old cars turn into dog houses and his neighbor Marty who becomes even quirkier after a motorcycle accident and lets his farm become a work of art, growing sunflowers because he can’t paint like Van Gogh.
He also tells a more personal and touching story as he recounts a debilitating motorcycle accident that compounded the difficulties of a birth defect.
His stories are complemented, albeit some inexplicably, by musician Simone Perrin performing classic country tunes on accordion and guitar. Although she joins in on the storytelling from time to time, the songs don’t seem to add much, except perhaps for her own humor and substantial charm.
- Prices for HOW? HOW? WHY? WHY? WHY? range from $45-$61, depending on day and seat location.
- Final performances 4 and 8 p.m. Saturday and 2 p.m. and 7 p.m. Sunday.
