On Wednesday night, the “American Idol” universe got to know a little something by the name of Bieber Fever — by the same token, they also found out that Justin Bieber’s fans can be a little difficult to control. The singer was at the show to tape an appearance for a future episode (one that now looks to be the “Idol Gives Back” charity special on April 21), and Entertainment Weekly was on hand to check out the details.
The madness began when Usher (otherwise known as this week’s mentor) hit the stage to perform — being that Bieber was discovered by the guy, it was understandable that he wanted to sit in the audience to hear him perform. Unfortunately, this may have ultimately been the reason why Usher had to tape his performance twice, since the first time the screaming girls in the audience were far too interested in who was sitting in the crowd.
Following this, things really started to get interesting. Bieber reportedly took the stage to film an “Idol Gives Back” promo, and at the end of it he pointed to a girl in the audience (you know, as many performers do to acknowledge someone screaming their name). Unfortunately, this particular audience member did not understand proper finger-pointing etiquette and took this as a signal to rush up on stage to declare their undying love for all things Justin. They were promptly taken down by someone in security — however, Bieber quickly smoothed this over by giving her a hug and the fan went back to their seat.
After all the results were calculated and Didi Benami was sent home, Justin finally took the stage for a two-song performance that including “Baby” and “U Smile.”
Do you blame one of Justin’s fans for trying to run on stage? Let me know your thoughts below and stay tuned for more news.
