There is not a lot of things that would be considered strange or unusual for a pub. Whether it is weird shots concocted by the bar, different traditions that the bar has first-timers go through, or just the old-fashioned monster meal that a patron could receive for free if it can be consumed. But for the first time when walking into a pub, there was a felling of being a regular for years. The feeling of walking into a place for the first time and feeling like home is either a really good thing or a really bed thing, on this day the former was the winner. Within seconds of entering, the bartender was welcoming and taking the order.
Johnny J’s is a spacious American style pub and grille with a little bit of a European feel to it. Nice wood furnishing, pleasant booths that would fit six people easily, a wide bar with all the liquor and beer one could be happy with, and charming quotes on every wall to put a smile on ones face. First, the main reason to travel out, the beers. Choose from 28 beers on draft and over 75 bottled beers, both domestic and imported. The happy hour will definitely make people happy too, as it is from 3 to 7pm and involves daily specials on every single drink in the bar rather than your typical Bud Light special for an hour or two.
Another first comes from the food menu. When the menu is given to you as a place-mat, high confidence for the food quality is almost nonexistent. Great food, as well as words, were eaten on this occasion. The selection Johnny J’s has is amazing. Don;t expect to find a meat pie on this menu, but do still expect fine food. Wide varieties of appetizers such as wings, nachos, and chili cheese fries wet your appetite right from the start. A selection of soups, salads, dinners, along with a selection of subs, wraps, burgers, paninis, and specialty sandwiches make this menu look so appealing it’s hard to make one decision. One unique thing, however, is that Johnny J’s does not restrict the side choices, every meal comes with a side of your choice. A pub giving you options, unheard of! With every meal being under $15(with the exception of 24 boneless wings for $16.99), the menu is near flawless. Now the most unique thing on the menu, a full breakfast menu. There might not be the feeling of being whisked away to Dublin in this pub, but when there is an option for a bottomless bowl of Lucky Charms for $2.99 on the menu, even an Italian can feel like an Irishman.
As for entertainment, Johnny J’s boasts sports packages for every sport on a number of flatscreen, high-definition TV’s. There are video games, such as Special Tee Golf, to choose from. Daily specials are an attraction, offering deals such as 99 cent tacos or a sirloin steak for $6.99. There are two locations, the second at Portage Lakes on Manchester Road. This reporter urges anyone to go to Johnny J’s for a good time and great food. Visit their web site at www.johnnyjspub.com.
