Opened in October 2004 in a converted auto parts garage in the industrial section of downtown Silver Spring, Jackie’s is often credited as a building block of the newly revitalized urban district and a pioneer in bringing farm to table cuisine to the area.
Co-owners Jackie Greenbaum and Patrick Higgins created a restaurant which itself has garnered numerous architectural and design awards. Perhaps best described as 60’s industrial chic, the former warehouse features a dramatic interior with 20 foot ceilings, exposed brick walls, roof rafters and building elements, and handcrafted steelwork throughout. The raw industrial elements are complemented by bright vintage fabrics, soft pink wall lighting, an illuminated bar and a 10 ft tall sheer movie screen which separates the bar from dining area with projected moving images and films.
The cuisine is classic American, with a seasonal menu utilizing the best local products. Most of Jackie’s produce and meats come from growers and ranchers within 100 miles of the restaurant – organic, grass fed, and sustainable. A commitment to support local farmers and create a reliable market for their goods is one of the owners’ firmest goals. They offer a Dinner menu, Brunch menu, and Café (lighter fare) menu. Recent menu items (which may change) include Steamed Mussels with Goat Cheese & Beer, Root Vegetable and Cornmeal Cake with Tomato, Forest Mushrooms and Pickled Peppers, and Berkshire Pork Pot Roast Casserole with Capers, Sun-dried Tomato and Herb dumplings.
Private Party Rental
Generally, the main restaurant is available on Monday nights and Sunday brunch for private rental. Special arrangements may be made for other nights, however. Certain minimums and rental fees apply. Please contact Jackie’s for further information. Also consider the “Back Room”, a dramatic and stylish space with an industrial feel to it. It is perfect for just about any type of party and live music is permitted. The Back Room is available 7 days a week, with a capacity of 100 standing and 75 seated.
Passed hors d’oeuvres are available for cocktail parties or as a prelude to a buffet dinner. Selections include items such as their signature mini Elvis burgers (organic beef topped with Pimiento cheese and all the trimmings), Pork Riblets with Chili, Scallions and Black Beans, Housemade Pepper Bacon wrapped Sea Scallops, and Old Bay Crab Salad on Crostinis. Vegetarian selections are also available.
