Examiner: What is a little known factoid about your place?
Chris: The Heathman has a unique library that is open 3 days a week for our guests. We have more than 3,000 titles, all first editions, cataloged, and signed by each author who has stayed overnight at our hotel. We believe it is the only hotel library in the country of its type! We are pleased to share titles from notable authors – including Tom Wolfe, Wallace Stenger, John Updike and Alice Walker. There are more than seven noble prize winners, 14 Pulitzer Prize winners, five Poet Laureates and countless best sellers.
Examiner: What is your specialty?
Chris: Although the Heathman caters to both business and pleasure travelers, we pride ourselves on being the gateway into the best of the Pacific Northwest. Whether providing information about arts and culture or food and beverage, the Heathman’s staff is always ready to share Portland with each of our guests.
Examiner: What is your patrons’ favorite thing about your establishment?
Chris: The little touches in every guest room, from complimentary French press gourmet coffee and loose leaf teas, to our Art of Sleep bed menu.
Examiner: What’s your favorite?
Chris: Our James Beard award winning Chef, Philippe Boulot’s, creations!
Examiner: What is the top thing you recommend visitors to your city do/see – besides your business, of course?
Chris: Most everyone has visited a Japanese garden, and Portland has a marvelous Japanese Garden! However, lately I have really enjoyed visiting our unique Chinese Garden. A unique experience in the United States; the timeless landscape and architecture is high on my list, and the price is right!
Examiner: Anything else you want to add?
Chris: We have NO RETAIL SALES TAX, shop at will.
