Health care resources for women in Duluth, Minnesota

by beep wire

Did you know that if you are a woman living in Duluth you have many more options available to you for health care than if you were a man? Actually that is true statement for most cities in the United States. Health care is one of the areas where women do seem to get preferential treatment. The reason, of course, is that their bodies have a much bigger role to play in the area of reproduction than men. Another reason is the trend for more specialization care in the medical field.

In the past, most women were satisfied with seeing their family practitioner for all their medical needs, from a sore throat to birth control to child birth and beyond. This is no longer the case. Most women now have at least two regular physicians, their family practitioner and their OB-GYN (obstetrics and gynecologist).

Duluth women have several options available looking for health care options. In addition to the general health care clinics in Duluth there are two other resources specifically focused on women’s health. These two resources provide similar but yet distinctive services to their clients.

Northland OB-GYN Associates is one of those resources. Their website at http://northlandobgyn.net/ gives a full listing of their services and specifies which of those services are available on site. They include such things as: prenatal care, gynecological surgeries, infertility evaluation and treatment, contraception advice and hormone replacement counseling. They are staffed with physicians and nurse practitioners that specialize in obstetrics and gynecology and have three locations in Duluth as well as two other offices in nearby communities.

The other resource specifically focused on women’s health care issues in Duluth is the Women’s Health Center. The mission of the center, according to their website is “is to provide and advocate for medically safe, legal and affordable reproductive health care…” Their focus is on reproductive health and education, which is easily seen by visiting their website at http://www.thebuildingforwomen.net/ The Center also provides a service not listed on Northland’s website, that of providing abortions. They also only have one location in the city of Duluth but do have satellite offices in several surrounding communities.

Of course, when it comes to information on women’s health, the internet is a convenient resource. Sites like: http://www.womentowomen.com/ and www.power-surge.com have been created to give women access to the information they’re looking for in a compact and specialized format. There is no need to be in the dark regarding the treatment options available for your health. It’s right here at your finger tips.
