Prepare for Corporate America to begin selling us the idea that the greatest reform in the history of America has been enacted into law. Reform in these times really means we all lost more of the freedom our ancestors fought so hard to win. We are told we don’t need government run health care as a pretext for government to increasingly run our lives.
If you are a woman when this legislation goes into law Bart Stupak and his C Street religious fruitcake cult just got Obama to support the idea that pregnancy should be compulsory. If it were really about the Right to Life there would be a significant focus on the quality of life for our children so that we protected the rights of children not just manipulated the emotions of ill informed people to demonstrate against their own best interests.
You know the truth of that statement simply by observing what it is those so concerned about life support. You will see that it isn’t about Life, Freedom, the size of government, or even the Middle Class having any say in the process. If it was then they wouldn’t support torture, warfare, cutting school and family nutrition programs all so we could give tax cuts to the wealthy. No most of the things this band of lying brothers support is adamantly pro-death so it has to be about control pure and simple.
It would be humorous to hear the Right chant we don’t want Government in our health care except they have no problem with government telling women what health care choices they can make. But while we all are watching health care they are putting government in control of much more of our freedom’s without us even noticing.
As we argue about health care John McCain and Joe Lieberman have introduced another slick fear based package of constitutional fraud into the realm of the sort of big government we do need. While we don’t need government in our health care we do need them intruding into our private lives to help the Totalitarians in our midst with control of the rest of us. To that end the McCain’s and Lieberman’s of the world will sneak by The Enemy Belligerent Act.
Glen Greenwald on Alternet calls this bill, ” probably the most extremist, tyrannical, and most dangerous bill introduced in the Senate in the last several decades. McCain and Lieberman prove once again that the War on terror is really a war on human rights. This bill uses a phony pretext of safety to attack due process and the rule of law.
This bill does that by granting the President the power to order the arrest, interrogation, and imprisonment of anyone including U.S. Citizen’s, indefinitely on the sole suspicion that the person is affiliated with terrorism. That doesn’t even get into the definition of terrorist that is so open ended that American political opponents can be identified as enemy combatants and held for as long as the government wants just because they have been identified as terrorists and their formally Constitutionally protected rights now are no more.
The unifying thread through all of the legislation that is contemplated is that in some way it codifies and curtails freedom for a segment of America’s population. Health care may cost many of us our health insurance policies at work. Something I believe corporations have long coveted. It denies a woman control of her body and codifies mandatory and compulsory pregnancy. The new laws also take away our right to participate in and protest against our slow imprisonment by Corporate Totalitarianism.
This isn’t about health care or life or freedom. It is about enabling the Corporate totalitarians who run this nation to give us pretend participation in what used to be our country. We have no say in or even control of the decisions that affect our lives.
Our Corporate rulers enable us to protest one of few ways government could help us while they use government to take over every aspect of our lives. Did I hear Obama say, ” War is peace”
Do not believe the lies. We have been given no change that will actually benefit us. We will only get change we truly can believe in, when we stop colluding in our own imprisonment and start standing up for our rights.
