Haleigh Cummings latest: Breaking news, report says Florida police found bones in river
Haleigh Cummings disappeared from her Putnam County, Florida home on February 9, 2009 triggering a statewide Amber Alert. In the past week, an anonymous tip has led investigators to the St. Johns River where they believed the body of the little girl, who was 5-years-old at the time of her disappearance, had been submerged in the water. Breaking news reports from News4Jax, state that well renown investigative reporter, Art Harris’s sources have told him that Putnam County Sheriff’s , FDLE, and the FBI found bones while they searched the river.

Florida authorities have not released information regarding whether the bones they found were Haleigh Cummings, however, they have stated that evidence was retrieved and is undergoing forensic analysis. An anthropology van and mobile unit were seen at the St. Johns River which police described as a possible crime scene. Putnam County Sheriff investigators said they are no longer searching for a missing child, but believe that Haleigh Cummings was murdered.

Misty Croslin, Haleigh Cummings’ ex-stepmother, Tommy Croslin (Misty’s brother), and Joe Overstreet (Misty and Tommy’s cousin) are believed to have been at the St. John’s River the night that Haleigh Cummings’ body was thrown in. Misty Croslin’s grandmother, Flora Hollars, appeared on HLN and has stated that both Misty and Tommy have given her accounts of the events that transpired the night Haleigh Cummings went missing.
Misty Croslin and Tommy Croslin are incarcerated in Florida due to drug charges. Joe Overstreet left Florida shortly after Haleigh Cummings’ disappearance and returned to Tennessee.
Last week, authorities from the Florida Department of Law Enforcement flew to Tennessee and interviewed Joe Overstreet. He has not been named a person of interest. During the press conference, sheriff’s announced that they have several ‘persons of interest’ in the death of Haleigh Cummings.
