The official Gundam Cafe that is opening in Tokyo on April 24th is not the first Cafe of its kind. In the Bandai Museum, there was one, but that museum closed in 2006. Also, there were two unofficial cosplay bars based on the 31 year old franchise, but they have been closed since January.
Gundam is going to have another go at this idea as it opens the 1550 square-foot cafe right outside the Akihabara Japan Railway Station. The Cafe will seat 60, and will serve its own exclusive blend of coffee, as well as an item known as “Gun-pla-yaki”, a large fried take out dish modeled after the first Gundam plastic model kit ever sold.
Of course, not only is it a cafe based on the Gundam Anime franchise, but it will also sell merchandise and spread the news on anything happening Gundam-related.
