I personally believe that now is a great time to start a business. With the economy on the mend, by the time you’re up and running you will be ready to meet demands head on. Plus, right now is a great time to get deals on a number of things you will need to startup.
If you’re a woman, then there are even more options for you to get start up money. The federal government has an initiative to increase opportunities for women. To learn more about the initiative, visit the Small Business Association at www.sba.gov and look under the section titled, Women Business Ownership. There you will find a wealth of information.
Also, check out your local SCORE office to learn more about grant and funding opportunities. Not only will you discover information about grants which are available to women and minorities, you will also find valuable information such as how to create a cover letter and the most common mistakes when applying for grants.
In addition, talk to you local bank representatives. Bankers are often familiar with opportunities. Your local bank may have information on grants for women in business. Lastly, NETWORK! There is something to be said about the power of networking. Your local networking groups can be a valuable resource.
In the end, we know that finding, applying for and obtaining grant money can take a bit of determination and patience but it’s well worth the effort. There is a ton of opportunities readily available for women and minorities seek them out and get the funding you need to see your business dreams become a reality.
