While it’s usually unacceptable to walk around town without wearing shoes, for one day, April 8, 2010, communities will band together and go without shoes to raise awareness about children suffering in poverty. The “One Day Without Shoes” event is a movement started by TOMS Shoes to highlight the unsanitary conditions that children face in underdeveloped nations.
TOMS Shoes is a sustainable company founded on the premise of giving back to children in need. For every pair of TOMS purchased, the company gives a pair of new shoes to a child in need.
In the spirit of giving back, the “One Day Without Shoes” event encourages participants to discover first-hand what life is like without shoes. TOMS is asking participants to go barefoot for the whole day, or even for part of the day, on Thursday, April 8th.
There are over 10 “One Day Without Shoes” events going on in the VA/MD/DC area. So on April 8, kick off the Louboutin’s and Jimmy Choo’s, and go barefoot for the day. Visit the One Day Without Shoes website to find the event closest to you.
