Recycling our waste and driving low emissions cars are necessary ways to show respect for the planet that sustains us.
Although these are two tangible, very good things, most humans delight in gratifications that are a bit more immediate and personal.
A pleasurable way to honor our Earth is by using her bountiful fruits and herbs to create infusions for happy hour.
Cocktails made with flavored spirits are all the rage on bar and restaurant menus, but these concoctions can easily be created at home.
Whether it’s vodka, tequila or rum used for the base ingredient, the Allentown Fairgrounds Farmers Market is a good local venue to find fresh fruit and herbs for your home-made blends.
Start an infusion now and it will be ready for use in two weeks, just in time for warmer weather. **
Bo’s Bowl Raspberry Infused Vodka
1- 750ml bottle of vodka
2 pints of fresh raspberries
1 large glass jar
Pour the vodka into the jar.
Wash the raspberries and add them to the vodka.
Seal the lid tightly and store the jar in a cool, dark place for two weeks.
After 2 weeks, strain the berries.
Infusion tips from Bo:
- Use a good quality vodka
- Be sure the jar you use seals very tightly.
- If the berries turn soft remove them.
- The berries might lose their color … this is normal.
** In two weeks… the recipe for a Raspberry Sorbet-tini will be posted using this vodka infusion.
