Dog shows are great research tools
An all breed dog show is a great way to see the various dog breeds up close and to speak with breeders. In one afternoon you can examine the coat, size, and learn about distinct behaviors of every dog breed imaginable, including grooming needs and energy levels.
Also, at an all breed dog show, you can inspect the various types within a specific breed and make contact with breeders whose type you prefer.
Do you love poodles, but prefer to adopt dogs in need rather than purchase a full bred dog? Many breeders and handlers are also members of their breed’s rescue organization. Rescuing a dog from a breed specific organization is another way to help a dog in need. Many of these rescues are living in foster homes and could really use a forever home.
When researching your next dog at an all breed dog show, please be courteous to the handler’s time. Many of the handlers are professional and are paid to be present by the dog owner. Always ask if the person attending to the dog is preparing to go into the ring and ask if there is a better time to return. You will then have the handler’s full attention and they will be able to give you the answers you are seeking.
Shopping at dog shows
Typically at the larger all breed shows you will find the walls lined with vendors selling unique dog memorabilia featuring nearly every breed. All breed dog shows are great places to find unique statues, jewelry, and other breed specific trinkets.
Vendors will also be on hand selling dog grooming and training products. Some of these products are products you can’t find in retail or chain pet stores and at considerable savings to purchasing online and direct. These are the products the professionals use on their dogs and can’t be beat for quality.
The Grand Lake Cluster dog show is being held at the Grove Civic Center, located at 1720 South Main Street in Grove, OK.
