If you are looking for a way to put some excitement into your normal fitness routine, challenge your fitness level, or just get off the couch and do something, then fitness boot camps could be your thing. “Boot camp” can sound intimidating to the average couch potato, however, most boot camps offer programs suitable for all fitness levels from the novice to the advanced.
I participated in a boot camp, called Ultimate Body Boot Camp. I was concerned that I was not in good enough shape for it but I went anyway looking for a program that would get me motivated and obviously, improve my weight and fitness levels. You fill out a health questionnaire prior to beginning so the instructor knows if you have any limitations. In my case, I have asthma and have to be careful with extreme cardio so parts of the cardio program were modified for me but still provided quite a challenge.
The workouts lasted an hour from start to finish and you work your tail off (literally!) during that hour. When the program started I could barely make it through ten modified push ups (or girl pushups as I call them). The last night of the program four weeks later going three days a week, I did 25 standard pushups. It still wasn’t easy but it was achievable at that point.
The biggest benefit to the boot camp was the sheer sense of accomplishment and empowerment gained from pushing myself as hard as I could.
Most programs offer nutrition advice as part of their program. Some programs are gender specific, offer hours throughout the day, and in numerous areas. Some programs offer group discounts if you have a group of people who want to join. The best advice is to look into several to see which program intrigues you.
Below are three programs that I have heard good things about. Consider a boot camp to push yourself to the next level!
