Going to college soon? Not exactly sure how to decorate your dorm room? Here are some decorating ideas from Mississippi College students.
A plant is a nice way to brighten up any room. Water bamboos are an exceptional choice because their deep green, feathery leaves add a splash of color to dorm rooms that are typically painted plain, boring white. Water bamboos are extremely easy to take care of. All you need to do is keep them watered. They cost about $20, which may seem kind of expensive for college students with a smaller amount of money, but water bamboos last for a long time, so you will not have to buy another plant for quite a while. You can sometimes find water bamboos at Wal-Mart, so make sure you check out your local Wal-Mart.
2. Flameless candle
A flameless candle adds a special touch to a room. It is practical, especially for colleges, such as, Mississippi College, that do not allow their students to use candles. Besides being practical, flameless candles are relaxing, giving off a soft, twinkling glow and a very light scent. In addition, they fit in well with almost any other décor. You can find flameless candles at both Wal-Mart and Target, although Target seems to have a larger selection with several different colors. Prices range anywhere from about $8.79 to $47.99.
3. Hanging Mirrors
Mirrors are another practical item that you can also use to decorate a room. Mirrors can open up a room and make it look a little bigger and more spacious. A full length mirror hanging on the back of the door can hide any obvious flaws that the door may have, and it can also make the door look less plain. They come in different colors, so pick whichever vibrant color you think would look best in your room. In addition, little round mirrors hanging from long pieces of ribbon add spark and character not only to something as original as a mirror but also to the room itself.
4. A Theme
Decorate your room according to a theme. Choose something you like – a favorite movie, sports team, hobby, or animal – and decorate your room according to this. For example, a student at Mississippi College loves Twilight and dogs. So, she put up on the wall several Twilight posters and a dog calendar. She put some Twilight magnets on her fridge along with a picture of her dog.
